Musahars living between the embankments of Kosi and Kamla rivers are still living in the Middle Age
Social workers from Italy, Aligarh and Patna associated with the NGO PRAXIS stayed in Kubol village of Kiratpur block from 20th to 23rd June and tried to understand the problems of the people there. The team returned to Darbhanga after a survey of the village located in between the embankments of the Kosi and Kamla rivers.
The team consisting of Italian and Delhi based Raffaella Catani, Mohammad Ali, Anindo Banerjee, Roma Dey, Jai Verma and Ranjit Jha said that the Musahar families in the village are burdened with their lives afflicted by floods, kalazar, unemployment and hunger deaths.
People have receipts of Bhudan land but have no ownership over such land. Government services and progress are insufficient.
People are still migrating in large numbers to earn for their daily bread. There is an absolute lack of education among them.
Team members said that the Musahar children of the area are made to seat separately in schools.
The team said that two kids of Phulchand Sada and the daughter-in-law of Mahavir Sada of Kubol are suffering from Kalazar but are not provided with medicines from the hospital. Due to the lack of means of family planning the number of children in each family is high. People get entrapped by unscrupulous money lenders. This team said there is a need to discuss the problems of Kubol in society. The team was helped in the visit by the voluntary organization Mithila Gram Vikas Parishad.
