| FREAKONOMICS |
This is a book
that no economics professor would use in his
or her class. Not because it is inaccurate
but simply because it is atypical much like
its author Steven Levitt. Levitt is not your
run of the mill economist, he is simply a
curious and keen observor of everyday life
who arrives at conclusions that turn conventions
on their head. Wall Street Jornal best sums
up the author and therefore the novel thus:
If Indiana Jones were a economist, he would
be Steven Levitt. |

| MAN
OF MARBLE |
| This movie by
Andrzej Wajda is a story about a female film
student who tries to trace the history of
Birkut, the long forgotten hero of the Polish
Communist Government. The student in the course
of her research studies a few propaganda films
that feature Birkut as a hero. But further
investigations leads her to the sad truth,
that Birkut’s off camera existence was
a cruelly depressing one and that his entire
heroic celluloid existence was a creation
of the state. |
